Repair and grouting

How to Select Non-Shrink Grout

Non-shrink grout is used to fill a gap while maintaining support, commonly beneath machine or column base plates. The label does not mean that every grout has identical strength, flow or installation limits. Define the load, gap geometry, placement method and service exposure before selecting a product.

Start with how the grout must enter and fill the space. A narrow gap under a plate may call for a flowable mix and formwork that allows continuous placement; a larger repair volume may call for a different aggregate size or a micro-concrete. Check the permitted thickness, consistency, working time and yield in the actual product datasheet. Adding extra water to make a grout flow is not a substitute for choosing the correct grade.

Green Build Egypt describes GBGrout CNS as a flowable, shrinkage-compensated cementitious grout for machine base plates and structural units. GBGrout MC is described as a fiber-reinforced, flowable cementitious micro-concrete for thicker sections. UltraGrout-EP is an epoxy structural grout for applications that require its stated impact and chemical resistance. These products are not interchangeable merely because each fills a void.

For a cementitious option, compare the specified strength at the age when the equipment will be loaded, the placement consistency and the shrinkage or expansion test evidence. ASTM C1107/C1107M defines a test framework for packaged non-shrink hydraulic-cement grout; do not assume a particular Green Build product complies unless its current documentation demonstrates that claim. For epoxy grout, compare the separate installation and service requirements in its own datasheet.

Good placement depends on sound, clean concrete, suitable formwork and the manufacturer's mixing and curing instructions. Record the site temperature, water quantity where applicable, batch size and time available to place the material. For critical base plates or structural loads, have the project engineer approve the grout system and inspection criteria before work begins.
